It’s tough to pick a fav as they both just roll out with class but if I HAD to pick, Tell Me is the winner. I’m a sucker for those simple vocal samples, grooving chords, and bumping bass. Highly recommended!

Interesting house influenced grooves. Not everything on this album is cup of tea but there are some really great tracks throughout. My top picks are The Prudence of Evolution, The Heroic Lives of Particles, and the great DNTL remix of When Synchronicity Prevails. Which brings me to my last comment, Ernest Gonzales easily wins for best track names.

First blog post of 2012 had to be something big and Fachwerk do not disappoint. Groovy, shuffly techno/house. Great little acid track in there for good measure too. The first track on this one is outstanding and not to be missed; the rhythmic vocal sample kills it for me.

It seems he’s traded in his garage influence for some twisted house/techno ala Matthew Herbert or Jan Jelinek in his Farben guise. We Are chugs along with filters on full tilt throughout. Narry is a stomper, similar to Kinda Kickin’ by Herbert. I can see great things in this man’s future.

It was some news to me that Daphni is a new alias for Caribou aka Dan Snaith. The man of all of the monikers just did a back to back DJ set with Jamie XX on BoilerRoomTV and I was stunned at the depth this man went. From banging acid tracks to random edits and every in between. So this is the first EP, well track with a remix, from Daphni that will be released digitally. The original is a mellow affair with minor changes to the percussion while keeping a nice steady groove. The remix is little more fleshed out with a few added synth sounds. Very cool stuff.

Goldwill Feat. The Lazarusman - When We [Wandering]

The "When We" EP from Goldwill is a fantastic EP with a few different views on the same theme, hence the track title. There is a vocal used on all of the tracks to make it sound very coherent but all are a little different. This is just great house music with added ambient-ish bonus.

Aardvarck will soon drop (it's available at some places already) a new album that really perked my ears up. I may have just been sleeping on his album work because the last stuff I grabbed of his was the Bloom series; a couple of those tracks have some new edits on the album too, score. It seems it is a collection of some of his most recent EPs but let that not deter you, these tracks are prefect for those space/weird sessions. A great body of music from start to finish.

This went under my radar but in listening to the tracks it's unmistakable, Kassem Mosse does it again. Kvanefjeld is the most dancefloor friendly of the bunch, although it would have to be very late or very early. The rest of the EP ranges from ambient to slowly evolving analog awesomeness. Nice.

If you don’t know his previous work check out the phenomenal release below, especially “You Make Me Sweat/You Make Me Sick”. The top two releases are the new EPs he has put together; one from 2010 and one forthcoming. If ever there were a buy on sight artist, it would be Jan Jelinek and his many guises. Buy first, figure it out later. As with many great artists, his work takes time to understand as the frayed loops split at the seams and open up new sonic possibilities. Highly recommended.

Crisp sounds and great grooves. The remixes are ok; Whatever/Whatever seem to have used every genre, from house to techno to dub, to influence their remix. Nacho Lovers takes a more UK Funky via Chicago vibe. Good stuff.

Terre Thaemlitz is one of the most interesting people in this musical island that we all hold close to our hearts. She has the ability to spiral into the depths of your mind with thought provoking music and words. This all became rather apparent when I read a few in depth interviews that have been posted by the great folks at MNML SSGS and Little White Earbuds around the time she released her a long player titled Midtown 120 Blues under her DJ Sprinkles alias. Her music pulls you into a world that you don’t quite understand because it’s so intimate and clearly hinged on personal experiences. For me, this makes some of the music difficult to wrap my head around because there is a certain level of empathy one gains after repeated listens. It doesn’t hurt that for every introspective and wandering groove, she can make you jack like a kid on a pogo stick.

Which brings me to the reason for this post; MNML SSGS recently did a 3 part interview with Terre covering relevant topics related to production, distribution and some other bits and bobs that will make you think. I don’t know this personally as I haven’t had the time to read it myself, but if there is one thing for certain, it is that every time I read or hear something Terre has had a hand in, it makes me think differently. Roof Light, a 2010 highlight (if only for the crazy weird electronica he's been dipping into on his soundcloud page). Odd pairing with MOM, which is known for some great dub meanderings, but it works. Both label and producer steppin out and making some great music/release. Proper.

To use a phrase recently discussed on Resident Advisor, this archival discovery is the fruit of “permaretro”. The edit and reissue bug has been around a bit now but of all the crap that’s been unearthed, the bonus cuts on this and couple of the main album tracks are simply stunning. Mixing up fucked up synth programming with industrial dread, while keeping the French electro aesthetic, which is the bulk of the album. Track three could of fit on a NIN album (that’s a compliment), while tracks 8-13 are just awesome.
