Gerry Read - We Are [Fourth Wave]

Offshoot label of Ramp, Fourth Wave release their 3rd EP, second from Gerry Read. It seems he’s traded in his garage influence for some twisted house/techno ala Matthew Herbert or Jan Jelinek in his Farben guise. We Are chugs along with filters on full tilt throughout. Narry is a stomper, similar to Kinda Kickin’ by Herbert. I can see great things in this man’s future.

Kevin Mcphee - Sleep [Idle Hands]

Awesome smudged left of center house from the Idle Hands label. Sounding somewhere between Jan Jelinek and various other odd sound types. It's really hard to pick a favorite from this one; Sleep has a sick vocal sample that sucks me in every time I listen it and House 44 has this fucked up percolating synth that I just love. Get involved!

Farben – Xango [Faitiche]

A new release from Jan Jelinek is always great, but having a new release under his Farben guise is even more to celebrate, for me anyway. If you don’t know his previous work check out the phenomenal release below, especially “You Make Me Sweat/You Make Me Sick”. The top two releases are the new EPs he has put together; one from 2010 and one forthcoming. If ever there were a buy on sight artist, it would be Jan Jelinek and his many guises. Buy first, figure it out later. As with many great artists, his work takes time to understand as the frayed loops split at the seams and open up new sonic possibilities. Highly recommended.
