Jack Dixon - You Won't Let Me [Apollo]

 R& S's recently revived ambient sub-label Apollo, sees Jack Dixon at the helm. While not easily categorized as "ambient" per se, each track on offer is clearly viewed through a softer lens than your typical R&S release. The EP sits somewhere in between the sound of syncopated snares, similar to Breakbeat and UK Funky, while also retaining a distinct ambiance present on releases from labels like Kompakt. My fav on the EP is Saviour, with its dub splashes and rolling bassline, a treat for the feet and the mind. Class.

Kai Von Glasow - Unkind [Mild Pitch]

Here we go with another varied EP that would work in a slew of mixes. The first track, Quit Quiting has a Dub Techno vibe with some very interesting textures coming off the reverberated samples. The lead cut, Unknind has an unhinged Dubstep quality, not to mention to the ever popular vocal stabs. Then the curve comes in place of the third track, Oh Boy, poppy indie vibe with some twinkling keys and guitar strums. Quite the debut, I'd say.

My newest effort. I think it's one of the best I've done to date, things are sitting in the right place etc. I think I need to do some minor adjustments like bring the low-end up a bit in the mix and work on the dry synth sound. What do you think?

Aardvarck - Anti Concept: The Album [Eat Concrete]

Aardvarck will soon drop (it's available at some places already) a new album that really perked my ears up. I may have just been sleeping on his album work because the last stuff I grabbed of his was the Bloom series; a couple of those tracks have some new edits on the album too, score. It seems it is a collection of some of his most recent EPs but let that not deter you, these tracks are prefect for those space/weird sessions. A great body of music from start to finish.

Deep Explorer, Stereociti has created a classy album for the buy on sight label Mojuba. Chilled out house beats with plenty of dub flourishes. Well worth a listen or 5.

Darling Farah - Exxy [Civil]

New label and producer for me here. But talk about being a show stopper, "Younger" and "Crown" are some of the coolest tracks I've heard in some time. all clipped and reverbed samples; see line woman hi-hats; detroit stomp; and studio tricks for days. I can't wait to check out what I've missed from this artist/label. Raw.

The second release from BNJMN is quite a different animal than the first. While the first was immediate and in your face, this is more introspective and relaxed. Not to mention the two awesome remixes from Lukid and Kelpe. Don't miss out on the Kelpe remix, it's a Boomkat exclusive.

Vladislav Delay - Latoma [Echocord]

After his recent LP and work as part of the Moritz Von Oswald Trio, Vladislav Delay comes with two original tracks that mutate gradually with out of time beats and rolling kicks. My fav is the title track, with the second track following closely. Villo Remix (Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer) is bit too minimal for my tastes.

XDB - Bakform [Harbour City Sorrow]

Quality tracks that very few can produce; XDB has been on fine form over the last few years. It's too hard to pick a favorite.

Andy Stott - Passed Me By [Modern Love]

Andy Stott and Modern Love do it again; this release is incredibly captivating is sound and composition. Every track is so heavily weighted in the bottom is ridiculous. It's extremely difficult to pick a favorite but I think "dark Details" wins it; starts off unbalanced and then a groove forms around a broken half-step vibe. Fucking class!

Darko Esser - Clean Slate [Curle]

Some serious techno for your ears. I prefer the original and dub version, the others are functional but don't hit the same sweet spot for me.

Nathan Fake & DJ Koze - Xmas Rush [Pampa]

Nathan Fake track is allllllright, but the Koze track is siiick. Dubbing off the deep end with some wacky effects.

The Dub Chronicles Part 01

In my neverending quest to find new music I have recently decided that house, techno, soul, and funk was not good enough, I have decided to dig a little deeper into all things dub. I was at this record store last Saturday and saw section of "Reggae/Calypso/Carribean" and thought it was worth a shot. I picked up a Bob Marley record, a dubplate, and some other popular group.

Thank god for the internet because I found some amazing resources for info, releases, mail order, etc. I've listed some of the good links below and will randomly update with specific dub/reggae business.
